Sustainable Aviation

It is widely acknowledged that the luxury industry has become increasingly environmentally conscious in recent years and the private aviation sector has a particularly key role to play. We explore how a number of different innovations are key to reducing emissions in aircraft. and how we, at Freestream can look to continue to establish that footprint in a long-term decarbonisation strategy.

Utilizing a sustainable design philosophy encourages decisions at each phase of the design process that will reduce negative impacts on the environment and the health of the occupants, without compromising the quality or aesthetic. As sustainability moves to the forefront of the conversation we must design with a mindset of biomimetics, conviviality, durability and efficiency.

Green materials in aviation design

At Freestream we find that building with eco-friendly materials and finishes is a strong way to contribute to our sustainability responsibility and carbon off-setting. By not only sourcing materials from companies using responsible manufacturing, but also sourcing design materials for longevity, we maintain a focus on reducing our carbon footprint and maintaining our high standard of quality production. We use carpeting and solid flooring made of natural materials like Mylo made of mycelium and explore other innovative materials with durability like Forager Hides from Ecovative Design.

There no longer has to be a debate between consolidating luxury and sustainability. Luxury is already becoming environmentally conscious and we look to continue to establish that footprint in private aviation. Eco-friendly materials add a unique character with a layer of authentic importance and have begun to play a role in high-end fashion brands as well as private aviation.

Reducing our carbon footprint

As climate change moves to the forefront of conversation in the aviation industry and culture, Freestream has partnered with Zeitz Foundation in planting 1 million trees so we can do our part and keep exploring this great universe.

Our vision of best in class service compels us to support our clients’ visions and legacy for the world beyond the field of aviation. Our investment will offset 24,000 tonnes of carbon per year once the trees reach maturity. Finding ways to support sustainability and environmental awareness through design and partnerships allows us to contribute as well as learn of meaningful ways to make an impact as we move forward.
